Coloreel strikes €1.9M deal to scale sustainable textile tech production

Swedish textile innovator Coloreel has secured a €1.9 million deal with a major Asian manufacturer to deliver its patented digital thread dyeing technology to global brands.

Coloreel’s technology enables manufacturers to instantly dye a white thread into an unlimited spectrum of colours in real-time. This makes production more efficient and sustainable while providing tremendous opportunities for design and creativity.

The new partnership highlights Coloreel’s ability to meet the growing demand for innovative and sustainable solutions among manufacturers and brands worldwide. The initial delivery of the on-demand digital thread-dyeing units is set for October this year, with the majority of the volume to be shipped during 2024.

“We are thrilled about this partnership and eagerly anticipate collaborating to produce high-quality products utilising our patented technology. This agreement serves as evidence that our offering can play a crucial role in making mass production in the fashion industry more sustainable,” said Torbjörn Bäck, CEO of Coloreel.

Last year, Coloreel secured financing from Nefco to facilitate its growth and expansion in global markets. The company’s recent partnership is a significant milestone in its journey to make sustainable textile production a reality. By scaling up its production and delivering its technology to global brands, Coloreel is helping to create a more sustainable future for the fashion industry.

Sustainable solution for textile production

Coloreel’s patented digital thread dyeing technology is one of its substantial portfolio of worldwide patents. The technology can reduce water consumption by up to 97 percent compared to traditional thread dyeing.

A life cycle analysis (LCA) and environmental product declaration (EPD) published by Coloreel in the international database Environdec show that its technology produces 50 times less wastewater. Swedish environmental consulting firm Miljögiraff has verified both documents.

In addition to its environmental benefits, Coloreel’s digital thread dyeing technology can also help businesses reduce costs and improve efficiency. By eliminating the need to stock a large inventory of pre-coloured threads, businesses can save space and money. Additionally, it can help companies reduce waste by eliminating the need to discard unused pre-coloured threads.

Mattias Nordin, senior vice president of business development at Coloreel, said that the company has long known that its technology has a significant environmental advantage, and it is currently focusing on further reducing the amount of energy and ink used in production.
