A good design should meet present needs while maintaining relevance and adaptability for the future. This complex and important work is highlighted by Teknikföretagen and Techarena through the Grand Award of Design.

The award, with a proud legacy of over 20 years under its former name Stora Designpriset, continues to celebrate Swedish innovation where design meets business and sustainability. In 2024, the award was relaunched with two categories, Gold and Pioneer,  and has since become one of Sweden’s most distinguished recognitions for design-driven success.

“The Grand Award of Design continues to demonstrate how Swedish companies use design as a strategic tool for innovation, sustainability, and commercial growth,” says Pia Sandvik, CEO of Teknikföretagen.

And now, the winners of the 2025 competition have been announced.

Gold Category Winner: Aarke Coffee System

The Gold Category is won by Aarke for their Aarke Coffee System, a beautifully engineered setup that brings precision, ease, and elegance to daily coffee rituals. Consisting of a connected grinder and brewer that communicate seamlessly, the system exemplifies Aarke’s continued commitment to refined design and high-quality craftsmanship.

Jury’s motivation for the winner:

“Rooted in a thoughtful design process, how to make your everyday more joyful, purposeful, and less complex.

A system-thinking truly grounded in quality, modularization, and reparability. All made easy.
Not dressed up by design but designed by structure and material, sculptured into perfection.
Designed to stand the test of time with wear and tear for many years to come.

An everyday ritual made effortless and analog yet smart underneath, blending simplicity with systematic elegance.

So, taking off from sparkling water and now entering a financially successful journey in the art of coffee brewing.

The winner of the Grand Award of Design 2025 is… Aarke Coffee System.”

Finalists in Category Gold:

  • Marshall Monitor III ANC – Marshall Group / Inhouse Design
  • Aarke Coffee System – Aarke / Inhouse Design
  • Bris Kylskåp – Haglund Industri / Design by Myra, part of Prevas

Pioneer Category Winner: Saveggy

The Pioneer Category is won by Saveggy, whose plant-based, edible coating replaces plastic wrap for fruits and vegetables. Made from rapeseed and oat oil, Saveggy extends freshness naturally while reducing food waste and plastic pollution — a breakthrough in sustainable packaging and circular innovation.

Jury’s motivation for the winner:

“The winner of the Grand Award of Design, Pioneer Category, is a highly urgent and innovative response to a pressing issue.

The solution is ranking high on all evaluation criteria, sustainability at its best, commercial potential with already established partnerships, and a high degree of innovation and user value.

Considering that sometimes, ‘no design is the best design,’ and that nature is our best source of inspiration — the winner is… Saveggy!

Finalists in Category Pioneer:

  • Katla 3 – Katla Aero / Inhouse Design
  • PexyEazy® – Developeration AB / Design by Fjaryl
  • Saveggy – Saveggy / Inhouse Design

The Grand Award of Design celebrates excellence where creativity, functionality, sustainability, and business acumen converge. Recognizing companies that strategically integrate design into every part of their development process, the award highlights how Swedish innovation continues to lead globally in combining technology, aesthetics, and responsibility.

The award is organized by Teknikföretagen, the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries, in collaboration with Techarenan.
